TURLOCK, Calif. – Senior midfielder Andrew Marinez scored on a header in the final minute to lead No. 3 seed Cal State Dominguez Hills to a 2-1 come-from-behind victory over No. 2 Cal State San Bernardino in the opening match of the 2009 California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Men’s Soccer Championship at Warrior Stadium in Turlock on Friday.

The win advances the Toros (15-5-1) into Sunday’s championship match against the winner of the Cal State L.A.-Sonoma State match that begins later this evening. Sunday’s title match is slated for 2 p.m.

Cal State San Bernardino (15-5-1) will now await the announcement of the 32-team NCAA Championship field that will be released on Monday.

Cal State Dominguez Hills, the defending national champion, will be making its 10th CCAA final and sixth in row. The Toros have won six conference crowns, the most recent coming in 2007.

After a scoreless first half, Cal State San Bernardino broke the deadlock when junior Obi Agwu took a cross from Demetri Burgos inside the left post at the 70:36 mark.

The 1-0 Coyotes lead lasted for little more than five minutes as the Toros struck for the equalizing goal when Greg Piechota received a ball from Marinez and scored from five yards out in the 76th minute.

Cal State Dominguez Hills was the aggressor for most of the match as the Toros out-shot Cal State San Bernardino, 24-8, including an 11-3 advantage in shots-on goal.
