WALNUT CREEK – Albert Cabrera, Ryan Larson and Martin Esqueda highlighted a group of seven Cal State San Bernardino players that were honored as all-conference, it was announced by the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) on Thursday. Cabrera and Larson were named to the first team while Esqueda was selected Freshman of the Year.

Other top honorees were Cal State Dominguez Hills defender Kevin Gallaugher (Most Valuable Defensive Player), Victor Regalado of Cal State Stanislaus (Most Valuable Offensive Player), Cal State Dominguez Hills’ goalkeeper Markus Dickerson (Newcomer of the Year) and Chris Chamides of Cal State L.A. (Coach of the Year).

Gallaugher was named Most Valuable Defensive Player for the second season in a row while Chamides was honored as Coach of the Year for the second time. He previously was tabbed the conference’s top coach in 2004.

Chamides guided the Golden Eagles to a 17-2-1 overall record, including a 13-2-1 conference mark, the South Division title and the top seed in this week’s CCAA Championship Tournament.

Cal State L.A. led all institutions with three first-team selections as senior forward Federico Cino, midfielder Aza Gomez and defender Ryan Larson were so honored. Defender Simon Volk was selected to the second team while forward Jason Swope garnered honorable mention.

Joining Cabrera and Larson as all-conference for Cal State San Bernardino were forward Obi Agwu and defender Mark Peters, who were named to the second team, and midfielders Jeremiah Marquez and Billy Pellow who earned honorable mention.

Cal State Dominguez Hills had five All-CCAA selections. Midfielder Andrew Marinez and Gallaugher were named to the first team while Dickerson and defender Marco Pulido were second-team picks. Midfielder Alex Munoz received honorable mention
